Rude red cap side
Has great happy hours. Nice atmosphere. Good music. Be careful on red cap side. Bartenders r rude n always serve their friends first. And they wont give change and keep as a tip. Lots of drama queens on busy night.
Queer women are not welcome
My girlfriend asked for a Harvey Wall Banger, she got a crappy attitude and a weak Greyhound. The same drag queen that had assaulted me at Embers was making rounds there for Martigras. This club is in my neighborhood and there is no where to go if you are a femme lesbian in PDX. Boxxes connects to Red Cap. I went to Red Cap on Halloween. I met a lesbian in the bathroom who was upset that she had mistaken a man for a woman and felt sick. Not long after a man busted in the women's room and looked over each of the stalls. I said hey, what are you doing this is the ladies room and told him to get out. The girl came out and I was trying to console her by the sink. In rushed 3 men claiming that the one guy was told by his friend that she was going to do coke in the bathroom. The girl that I was standing with was ordered to leave. She did not know any of the men and she had not done coke. She was crying, so I helped her out the door. There we were told by the bouncer that we could not go back in. I explained that she just had to call her friends on her cell phone and if there was a place for her to stand. He said no, we went back inside and she had to try to call her friends in a room that was too loud to shout over. Luckly I she found her friends and I was there to help her. She was from Vancouver and if the guys there had their way, she would have ended up in a gutter. I have not personally been discriminated against at Boxxes or Red Cap. Occasionally they play some non-hip hop and it is a good place to dance and be invisible. It is not a place to hook up if you are a lesbian, women rarely go there. The men do knock you aside here. Still anything is better than the E-room, where femmes are hated.
