Special performance and celebration on April 23 @8pm in honor of Shakespeares Birthday (PWYW)
(12 performances Total)
(1 poet + 3 lovers)154 sonnets = a story you never imagined
If youre going to see one Shakespeare play this year, why not make it the one youve never seen?
This World Premiere original performance piece presents all 154 of Shakespeares sonnets and the narrative that has been purposefully made mysterious by those afraid of its consequences. We attribute many firsts to William Shakespeare, but in Sonnetscape we see that the Bard also wrote the first great collection of literature detailing the specifics of homosexual love and its layered social complexities. But did he mean for anybody else to read these poems? And did their unauthorized publication in 1609 ultimately lead to his downfall and subsequent historical sanitization? What if the reason we know so little about his life is because they knew too much?
Mark Twain famously said the sonnets are, "something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read." Fuse has done the work for you. Come see the story Shakespeare may have never intended for us to know.
