Nuggets Night began seven years ago as a benefit show for Question Mark of ? and the Mysterians who lost his home to fire. Since then the event has gone on to raise money for The Portland School of Rock, A.M.P., Ethos, The Jeremy Wilson Foundation, Oregon Music Hall of Fame, WFMU, and Norton Records.
This year, Nuggets Night will benefit House of Sound (houseofsound.org), a member-supported internet broadcasting community, transmitting from the Watershed building in SE Portland since 2008. House of Sound's mission is to present a variety of aural stimulation by Portlanders to the world. House of sound is unique among internet broadcasters in that there is a low barrier to entry for would-be DJ's and hosts. A two hour weekly show is only $20/month; equipment, training, and studio provided. House of Sound's goals for 2014 include a reorganization under non-profit 503 (c)(3) status. Non-profit status would allow House of Sound to do more community outreach and offer free public events. Fees for registration and filing with the State of Oregon are currently out of reach for House of Sound.
