The Portland Community and the world recently lost one of it's brightest lights. Our friend Edward Huser, also known as Sister Barbi Mitzvah left us suddenly on February 23rd. While we in Portland only knew him for a short time he was able to show us how important supporting our community is, all while serving up his infectious personality, and expressing genuine love for everyone.
In his passing he left behind his beautiful partner, Jefe Kraybill, also known as Sister Celeste L. Powers. Jefe has been trying to pick up the pieces, but is unable to do so without the support of his community.
Ed Huser and Jefe Kraybill were both members of The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Houses in The Russian River, San Francisco, Palm Springs, and Portland.
The San Francisco Sisters have created a Mitzvah Team and a Give Forward page to raise donations for Jefe. Any funds raised at this event (after costs) will go directly to this fund.
Below is the link to the donation site for anyone who can't make it to the event but still wants to help. Every little bit helps.

Dearest Friends, Family, Sisters, and Community members,
Sister Barbi (Ed Huser) passed away unexpectedly on the evening of February 23, 2014 in Portland, Oregon. He is survived by his loving soul mate Jefe Kraybill (Sister Celeste L. Powers) and their two loving pet children Fiona and Rocket and many friends and family members.
Sister Barbi took the name of "Mitzvah", meaning "Blessing"... and a Blessing he was. He was a blessing to our Communities (The Russian River, San Francisco, Palm Springs and Portland). In Sr. Barbi's thirteen years of dedication to our communities he was able to help many people, organizations and non-profit agencies. He was very active with Pink Saturday, Folsom and Dore Street Fairs, Lazy Bear, Penny Drives, Sisters Bingo, The Monte Rio Casino Night, Darshans and local fundraisers for Fire Departments and Back to School Programs in the Russian River.
The biggest "Mitzvah" Sister Barbi had in this lifetime was his beloved Jefe. They met on Valentine’s Day 2005. You will never see two people more in love. This Love Story should have lasted a lifetime but Ed/Sister Barbi was taken from this life too soon. This is where we, Ed and Sr. Barbi's family, Community and friends can create and continue the "Mitzvah" he was.
Our dear Jefe/ Sr. Celeste needs our help and a big "Mitzvah". Jefe is currently on disability and can no longer work as a massage therapist. Upon their move from San Francisco to Santa Fe and then eventually to Portland, they were living on credit, mainly Jefe's credit. As Ed was working, they were slowly paying off the credit card debt. There are also medical bills, taxes and future moving costs which are very difficult to deal with while living on disability. Currently Jefe has great credit and we need to keep it like that so his eventual move will be that much easier.
Currently, we are shooting to raise $20,000 to cover the cost of their joint debt, medical bills, taxes and eventually move. We've spoken to Jefe and whatever is not used to help these costs will then be donated back to one of Sister Barbi's favorite charities. We ask from the bottom of my heart to help Jefe, our Sister and friend in need. As we say when doing a Penny Drive, "Every penny counts". Please give what you can and please share this on all your social media sites. Sister Barbi knew so many people and we want to reach all of them.
Thank you from all of us, the people, Communities and Sisters that love Jefe and Celeste and that loved Ed and Barbi so much.
Blessed Be,
The "Mitzvah" Fundraising Team
