Directed by Alexandre Aja, HIGH TENSION follows best friends Marie (Cécile de France) and Alex (Maïwenn) as they head to Alex’s family home in rural France for a study weekend. After a brutal home invasion leaves Alex kidnapped in the night, Marie must survive a bloody game of cat-and-mouse to save her friend from a twisted killer. Hailed as one of the founding films of the French Splatter genre (followed by gems like INSIDE, FRONTIERS, and MARTYRS), and featuring a plot twist you have to see to believe (and won’t believe once you see it), HIGH TENSION is an arterial spray of suspense and ultraviolence that will leave you tickled French.

QUEER HORROR is a bimonthly festival of genre works by queer artists, performers, and filmmakers questioning horror’s relation to queerness and what it means to identify with the monster. Maybe it’s the fact that queer people are so often relegated to shadows of otherness that the horror genre is more immediately relatable for us. We grew up with boogeymen. We’ve lived with boogeymen. Goblins and ghosts are a welcome escape from real-life monstrosities.
From the work of James Whale and John Waters to Patricia Highsmith and Clive Barker, horror has deeply impacted queer culture and sensibilities and QUEER HORROR asks why.
