New Oregon Breweries Showcase

The New School presents their annual New Oregon Breweries Showcase during Portland Beer Week. 11 new breweries from Oregon, all opened in less than a year from the date will be present pouring two beers each. Meet-the-brewers and owners from the new school of breweries from across the state from 5-8pm, the beers run all night. NO COVER. The lineup and beer list is still being formed but we are excited to be featuring these up and coming new brewers: Wolves & People Farmhouse Brewery Logo WOLVES & PEOPLE FARMHOUSE BREWERY When we first broke the story about Christian de Benedetii’s family farm set farmhosue and wild ale brewery we called it the most anticipated opening of 2015. A year later we call it the most anticipated of 2016 and look forward to finally trying these long awaited ales. ALESONG BREWING & BLENDING Founded by former Oakshire Brewmaster Matt Van Wyk, Alesong Brewing & Blending is one of the most anticipated new brewery openings in the state. It helps that Matt and his partners will be focusing on barrel-aged, barrel fermented and wild ales. While they fill barrels, plan a Southern Willamette Valley wine country tasting room and prepare for their first bottle release in late summer, they are excited to debut a host of ‘soft release’ pilot beers during PDX beer week. ANCESTRY BREWING We first wrote about this ambitious startup last August of 2015 and they have been slowly releasing beers to the public with growler fill hours at the brewery. Technically they have not opened yet but are readying a full buildout of a public tasting room at their brewery in Tualatin, Oregon while building a separate taproom in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland. Ancestry Brewing has a 10bbl brewhouse and brewers history with Bellingham, Washington’s popular Kulshan Brewing. It’s one of the more major brewery openings of 2016. RUSE BREWING Friend of The New School Shaun Kalis has been working on his startup farmhouse inspired brewery for years and I remember attending a brew day and trying his homebrews years ago. He recently began making his beers commercially available by an agreement with Culmination Brewing. Ruse’s Translator IPA, Architect Saison and Multibeast brett saison have already garnered good reviews and are hard to find. PUBLIC COAST BREWING Quiet but beautiful ocean town Cannon Beach, Oregon is getting a new brewpub called Public Coast Brewing in the old The Lumberyard bar.Legendary brewer and now consultant Fred Bowman is working on the project that will feature a Head Chef turned brewer, working on a 10bbl brewhouse. The brewpub project is named in honor of Oregon’s public coastline. FREEBRIDGE BREWING Freebridge is the first brewery in The Dalles, Oregon in one hundred years. Opened in early February in the historic The Mint Building on Main St in The Dalles, Oregon. The new 10bbl brewery and tasting room is a fresh new destination in the area with an experienced brewer from Full Sail and Everybody’s Brewing. Freebridge has not yet began to distribute their beers so this may be a first for them in Portland. GREAT NOTION BREWING So far the most buzzed about brewery opening of the last year is Great Notion, who took over the old The Mash Tun space on NE Alberta. Great Notion quickly gained a fan following for their New England/Vermont-style “Juicy” IPA’s and bold flavors like the super maple syrupy Double Stack Stout, a fruited Saison and an in-the-works barrel aging and sour beer program. Plus they have refreshed the space and upgraded the food menu to to truly make Great Notion a destination. These days they are popular enough that you can rarely find their beer outside of the pub, so this is one of the few chances to try them on the southside.
