Saturday, Feb 11th will be the 6th annual "Touch Your Woman" celebration of the LADIES of classic country, THIS TIME at a NEW venue, The Fixin' To!
It will also be the FINAL Portland edition of this event. Perhaps it's because I've run out of ways to insert myself into recognizable Dolly Parton images, or maybe it's just time to focus on other projects. Even in 2017, the FEMINIST current running through classic country music is not widely recognized. One of the reasons I've continued to throw this event for so many years is that I've wanted to encourage people to look beyond stereotypes. Let us continue to search for our commonalities and build bridges instead of walls.
In these unusual times, when powerful forces are turning the tides to extreme social conservatism, I also hope to demonstrate that there's a great deal we can learn from the way artists from the past used music as activism and actually succeeded in molding social views.
I've been digging deep for over ten years to find these gems (and they are NOT easy to find). On Feb 11th I'll be featuring many of my all-time favorites and some freshly acquired 45s as well. There will be classics, rarities, and guilty pleasures (for which I feel no guilt). Don't miss your chance to dance to these musical inspirations!
