Tonight! QUEER HORROR: BRIDE OF CHUCKY

Now entering its fourth year of frights, the Hollywood Theatre’s bimonthly program QUEER HORROR returns for a Valentine’s date with BRIDE OF CHUCKY! This 20th anniversary screening opens with a preshow tribute hosted by Portland’s premier drag clown (and devoted Jennifer Tilly impersonatrix) Carla Rossi and starring the only and one VERA MYSTERIA!

Directed by Ronny Yu, 1998’s BRIDE OF CHUCKY throws a queer femme wrench in the CHILD’S PLAY series when Chucky’s old flame Tiffany (Jennifer Tilly) finds the original Good Guy doll and resurrects her grimly beloved – but old habits die hard and Tiffany finds herself trapped in a doll’s body for one hell of a honeymoon! Featuring Alexis Arquette, Katherine Heigl, Kathy Najimy, and Brad Dourif as Chucky – and written by Don Mancini, the out queer mastermind behind each entry in the so-far-seven-part franchise – BRIDE OF CHUCKY sets the groundwork for the funniest, bloodiest, and queerest slasher series of all time.

Wednesday, February 14th at 8:30 PM | $10

ABOUT QUEER HORROR:

QUEER HORROR is a bimonthly festival of genre works by queer artists, performers, and filmmakers questioning horror’s relation to queerness and what it means to identify with the monster. Maybe it’s the fact that queer people are so often relegated to shadows of otherness that the horror genre is more immediately relatable for us. We grew up with boogeymen. We’ve lived with boogeymen. Goblins and ghosts are a welcome escape from real-life monstrosities.

From the work of James Whale and John Waters to Patricia Highsmith and Clive Barker, horror has deeply impacted queer culture and sensibilities and QUEER HORROR asks why. QUEER HORROR is programmed and hosted by Portland’s premier drag clown Carla Rossi and her human avatar Anthony Hudson, with artwork by resident artist Jason Edward Davis.
