Service in the bar tonight was HORRIBLE. During the past year, I have enjoyed treating myself to a Monte Cristo and a few cocktails at Starky’s once a week. I think (as customers go) I am quiet, polite, appreciative, and a good tipper. The servers at Starky’s are friendly and make me feel comfortable. But not tonight. The attractive, tall, and slender server in the bar area greeted me, served me a cocktail, and quickly forgot I was there. With other customers, he hugged them, chatted with them, laughed with them, and brought them additional cocktails. With me, I sat there for at least 20 minutes after finishing my first cocktail waiting for the server to ask me if I wanted to order food or order another cocktail. The service, unfortunately, never improved. I was so disappointed with the server that I chose to get up from my table and pay the bartender the approximate amount of my bill (plus a modest tip) and leave (that is, cut my losses). I have never before had a discussion with a restaurant server about poor service and was afraid my words tonight might have been too harsh on this occasion.
