Rachel Torro is carving out a unique space in the San Francisco House Music scene with an aesthetic that draws from her adventurous musical background. Her musical passion has been influenced by artists like Radiohead, Pink Floyd and LCD Soundsystem. She combines a mature breadth of taste with a youthful playfulness colored by her post-adolescent history of psychedelic rock revelry. Her song selections weave a voice that is all her own–minimal, deep and tech house sensibilities build upon and support each other in a grounded but intricately textured experience. In addition to sharing the stage with staples like Pete Tong, NU, Hot Since 82, Mira and Lee Burridge, Rachel is the resident of some of San Francisco's most infamous underground arenas. In the Morning she raves her way into the day as a DJ and musical director for Morning Gloryville San Francisco, an early, pre-work conscious dance party. On weekends she can be found warming up the dancefloor for some of the best lineups in the city at The Public Works and WERD Sundays at Monarch. And Lastly, on the playa, atop the notorious 360 degree view, Panda Lounge Skybar, where the real magic happens...

the PERFECT CYN (pdx)
Modern Ritual, Free Agent
Portland’s The Perfect Cyn has an ear for the unexpected, with a penchant for melodies and heart shaking sub-bass. She has been known to say, “If a DJ cannot entertain oneself during their sets from time to time, what's the point?” This attitude definitely comes through in her DJ sets.
Raised in the Chicagoland area of Indiana, Cynthia experienced the disco/house transition of the early 80s and the house/rave transition in the early 90s. She waited to purchase gear and teach herself to dj until she moved to Portland in 2000.
She attributes the encouragement to move from spectator to participant solely to Portland’s positive attitude toward women in music of all forms. The years in between bear witness to a love story between a girl and music of all kinds: from the Beatles to AC/DC, Kraftwerk, Bikini Kill, and Underworld, with a memory attached to every song in between.
A driving force in the PDX techno and minimal scene that emerged in the early and mid 00s, Cyn founded Sexy Robot Music, a local collective who held numerous events at the city’s most cutting edge venues. She also has served as a founding member of each of the famed Shameless, and now defunct Alga-Rhythms, collectives. Now self-represented, she has traveled across the nation with her brand of top-notch dance music as headliner or also enjoying sharing the stage with her colleagues from Dirtybird, Wolf + Lamb, and most recently Modern Ritual on Portland.
Cyn shines most when she is performing regularly throughout the city, inspiring crowds with her own sets. 2013 performances have included travel to NYC, SF, Seattle, and Austin. Her recent foray into her own productions has reinvented her sound as well. Watch this space for more info on upcoming productions.
Now armed with proper instruments, a technical background, and a lifetime of care and attention to music, Cyn finally gives back to this thing that had brought her to many positive people and experiences in her experience: music.
